Dog Socialization: Why it's important in a dog's early stages

Early stages of Dog Socialization

Socializing puppies is the best way to make sure that they can live happily and adjust well to their surroundings. Keeping the dogs interacting with their environment helps them in adapting to different kinds of sounds, sights and smells.

Lack of social exposure to dogs can be dangerous not only for themselves but also for their owners. Some of the problems are as follows:
  • A dog which has not been through good experiences is likely to be afraid of similar things present in their surroundings. It can either be the sound of a car horn or a particular smell.
  • With fear in their minds, dogs often show aggressive behaviour to cope with stressful situations. They can even attack their owners or other people.
  • Handling of dogs become way more difficult at home if they are not introduced to daily-life things, such as combs and nail clippers, for grooming purposes.
  • Dogs are also nervous around people if they have not been given a chance to have a walk-around in public.

Tips for dog socialization
Here are some of the best tips that can help dogs mix with their surroundings:
  • Puppies can be introduced to new smells, sounds and sights so that they can become familiar with them.
  • Praising and rewarding puppies while they are going through new experiences can help develop positivity and fun in their minds.
  • Involving friendly people to play with dogs can eliminate their fear and improve their engagement in different environments.

JJ’s animal training provides a friendly environment for dogs to nurture their interactive skills by planning lively activities. These activities make use of daily-life things and involve several people so that dogs can quickly adjust themselves to new experiences.
